The Carnot Energy Institute of the Future is composed by six partner institutions, which cover almost all research in the field of new energy technologies in Grenoble:

 The Institute represents over 30 multidisciplinary laboratories with more than 1,500 researchers, and engineers.

Grenoble Polytechnic Institute

NAME: The Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (Grenoble INP)

STATUS: “Grand Etablissement de statut public” gathering six engineering schools

RESEARCH TOPICS:

- Materials and Process Engineering

- Engineering and geosciences

- Mathematics, IT, Signals and Systems

- Electronic, Electrotechnical

WORKFORCE: 5,300 students, 1,000 scientist and 22 laboratories (including 10 international), 21 of them are rated A + and A by AERES in 2010.

RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP BUDGET: € 117 million

VALORIZATION: A portfolio of 175 patents (on energy topics)

CEA-Liten

NAME: The Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy Technologies

and Nanomaterials (CEA-Liten)

STATUS: Public Establishment for Industrial Character attached to the French Atomic Energy Commission and Alternative Energies (CEA)

RESEARCH TOPICS:

- Renewable energy (production, storage, conversion) also for transportation and construction

           - Solar concentrated photovoltaic

           - Biomass conversion

           - Energy storage (batteries, hydrogen technology, electrical networks)

           - Micro-energy power (micro batteries, micro fuel cells, thermoelectric generators, piezo electric generators, etc.).

- High-performance materials for energy (nanomaterials, nanocomposites, simulation modeling, characterization analysis, etc.).

- Energy efficiency (thermal integration with low-energy building, grid management)

WORKFORCE: more than 1000 employees

BUDGET RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP: € 155 million

VALORIZATION: About 130 publications per year, a portfolio of 770 patents (190 new patents in 2011)

Joseph Fourier University

NAME: The Joseph Fourier University (UJF) 

STATUS: Public
